21st Birthday Even Title

During the clinic, 23 January, the nurse Solange Vachon gave us important information on precautions to take and how to prepare for our trip. Here is a summary of this information. I want to reiterate that I am not a nurse or doctor, I'm just copying what was said during the meeting with the nurse, I am not responsible for information that might be inaccurate.

- To protect against diseases such as hepatitis A, typhoid and traveler's diarrhea, it is important to take precautions even if we received a vaccine that helps us protect against these diseases. For example, do not drink running water, not even for brushing teeth. Bottled drinking water will be provided each day of the trip. Be careful also not to consume raw fruits and vegetables, unless you peel them and wash yourself with clean water. Do not eat salads, including egg yolk is not cooked or raw fish. By cons, everything was cooked in boiling water for one minute is safe. Avoid ice, and unpasteurized dairy products. Do not forget to wash your hands often!

- For prevention, you can consume probiotics before departure and also throughout the trip. Probiotics are sold in all pharmacies and supermarkets in capsule form. Be sure to buy the capsules do not need to be refrigerated after opening. Probiotics are good bacteria that help you protect yourself against bad bacteria that may lodge in your digestive system.

- In case of diarrhea, do not immediately jump on Immodium. Diarrhea is a sign that something is out of your system, so unless recurrent diarrhea (more than 3 liquid stools per day), we let nature take its course. Immodium is an anti-diarrhea powerful enough, the nurse suggests to focus on the Pepto Bismol (which can also take preventive ...) that is softer. If blood in stool, we stop everything and consult a doctor! Beware of dehydration. Make sure to drink plenty of water and incorporate salt and sugar or electrolytes.

- You can go see a doctor to prescribe you an antibiotic just in case. But you should NOT use an antibiotic as a precaution.

- Your medication must remain in the original bottle. Same for Advil, Tylenol and company.

-You can bring antibacterial hand gel but it does not replace good old soap.

- Have a good mosquito repellent with 25% DEET. If you normally large allergic reactions to mosquito bites, it might be advisable to bring Benadryl or other product reducing allergic reactions.

-Do not forget sunscreen. We require a sun protection factor of 30 or more.

That said, do not fall into the MOH! Remember that you make them for most to have them on hand just in case "... Remember also to match you up with friends for not all have to make a box of Tylenol, a package of Gravol pill, granule p'tite ... :)
