Solid Vegetable Glycerine

On the road to Boston ... balance of February

The marathon is in 49 days - seven weeks!

February figures ...

- 282 km in 25h42
- Pace through 5:22
- 3 days / week abs-dorsal
- 2 days / week weight training arm + leg

February in shades ...

load has increased during the month ... 41 km more than in January and speed intervals have become more demanding. This month and in the last 10 days more specifically, I really pushed the machine in contravention not the speeds recommended by my coach for the "light jogs" with the result ... my legs a bit tired but the morale high ... I feel strong! By cons I'll try to be wiser in the weeks to come ... an injury at this stage would be too ridiculous.

It was cold in February (No surprise, I know!). I have a mini fed up with long runs at -20! Deeply day sweeter!

February in New ...

The " Boston Athletic Association" (BBA) announced last February 16 to change its process and its criteria for registration. The change is in response to the fact that the entries this year were filled within 24 hours.

Boston Marathon ... Book a hotel and other logistical details!

The Boston Marathon is in 53 days ... It is high time that we speak logistics!

Hotel!

few days after my registration at the Boston Marathon I went on the site of the marathon, which were associated with marathon hotels and packages.

All hotels required a minimum booking of three nights and the prices were exorbitant! I have many Aeroplan points so I did a test on that side ... no avail ... I went to the site of several independent hotels marathon ... Rebelote!

also a feature of the Boston Marathon is that the departure is in the suburbs, 42 km from downtown Boston to Hopkinton. It's a bit like the start to the marathon was Montreal Mirabel ... Usually, riders take a bus then a shuttle from downtown to Hopkinton for the start. Obviously it means a departure from the hotel very early and waiting on the start line very long ...

Between the price that I found really high and the reluctance to take more of a hotel in the middle of nowhere but near starting line ... I decided to wait until early January to make my reservations.

early January, the site of the Boston Marathon - Travel and Accommodation - Qualified Runner ... hourglass ... there is no more room ... no ... ... ziltch niet ... nada ... zero ... Better luck next time!

Whereas some twenty miles up the marathon were "sold out" within 24 hours I might have had a doubt or two but finally ...

So I pulled over my second idea but the few hotels near Hopkinton were complete! I'm in a town 9 miles from the start, Westborough. As my love with me and we go by car, we will identify in advance how he will come take me back to the starting line ... On the map of the route , there seems to be a car park nearby with a Shuttle ... Stay tuned!

And the pasta dinner?

In September, in Toronto I said to the lover ... worry, there is an Italian restaurant next to the hotel and there is never anyone in downtown Toronto on Saturday night in this neighborhood at least ... worry ... I've worked 6 month staying at this hotel ... I know the area ... well the restaurant was fully booked! Luckily, the Mediterranean restaurant, in front were two places ...

Question not too try my luck and find myself in a fast food whatsoever ... I made my reservations for restaurant week Westborough last ... around the hotel and critics on the internet seem very good ... I even already consulted the menu and made my choice!

Breakfast him?

I think a lot of riders forget to plan the breakfast before the marathon. In hotels it is not always top the restaurant and in fact are often closed at the time we must take the small-bf ... To me, a good breakfast before the race is critical. Mostly I bring my oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, and I prepare myself. That's what I plan to do this time too.

Other preparations

Daniel sent me this email that I thought fit to pass on to all:

I found your blog looking for info for Boston. As someone trained in the 40-44 category for the 2011 marathon, I found your blog very interesting and motivating. I wanted you also provide pre-race advice of friends who ran the marathon in the past. Since the early departure of the buses that bring us to the start in Hopkinton, we will be about 3 hours to wait there before departure. So it is suggested to have old clothes you left in place for any kind of weather that day.

My friend last year has brought with him an old tent with a floor mat purchased at "Dollarama" and an old sleeping bag that he left behind and did not regret his idea to keep warm before the start.

Successful completion of training and good luck in Boston!

A big thank you to Daniel for the note. The marathon is in April, he will actually be essential to keep warm before the start. I have to find stuff not hot dear ...

... So here you think I forget stuff?

I return to my post marathon evaluating my alternatives for The hotel ... and everything else ... of course!

Me, my shoes ...

I have no idea how many pairs of shoes I have been since I started racing on foot ... 3-4 pairs a year ... it certainly is recommended to change its running shoes every 600 to 900km ... depending on your style of running and racing

I started with Mizuno and then switch to the Asics. The marketer in me would say that pubs Asics captive, eliminating the less sexy than Nike Asics but continues to be a favorite brands among distance runners ... like what!

Currently I have Asics GT2160 starting to have a lot of mileage ...

And this week ... I bought the very flamboyant " Racers' GEL - Noosa Tri 6 Asics

This is my first pair of "racers" to life! And it is also the first time I have found that my running shoes out of the mouth ... it will not make me run faster but is beautiful 'em good! I gradually begin to use them ... especially for speed sessions ... and footwear for the Boston Marathon (that's in 56 days !)... I've used it Saturday to test the issue at all ... I loved it!

I wear the same shoes in winter and summer. Occasionally, when conditions are really difficult, I put on crampons.

To run in the mountains I use Salomon XT Wings 2 GTX .

Otherwise ... I wear heels ... dizzyingly high

I never chose my running alone. I have always followed the recommendations of sellers in specialty stores and more recently my coach. After all, he knows my style of racing, my weaknesses and my training load. Between advice and jog in a small shop, the choice becomes easier ... This time, for example, I also tested a pair of Zoot but my arch felt stuck ...

Why leave this critical choice in the hands of others ... because it must be admitted, the choice is absolutely astounding! Also, read the descriptions and tests in magazines, there is an array of options all as good as each other with only a small difference here and there ... then here ... I try to trust those who have more information than me.

By cons, which I know is that the first few running I wore were too small ... although not recommended "pros" in stores ... so a good idea may choose the pro ... ask the right questions and feel free to question his experience ... and shop ... you train for a marathon but the majority of their customers are short-distance walkers or hikers ... change store! ... as they can not keep an inventory limit they will focus on models best suited to their customers. Previously, with these shoes too small when I started increasing my mileage accumulated bulbs my feet ... I lost a fingernail ... twice ... I will not say who had recommended them but it is a seller of the store who recommended me Run to add half a point higher. My running are now a point higher than my shoes "normal" Banal ... but my feet are eternally grateful!

You want to ask the right questions your "pro" ... This article "Running Shoe FAQ» give you an excellent base.

Antique Silver Hair Brushes How To Clean Bristles

Do you have good posture race?

All riders have already heard about the optimal position for the race. As for our friends Anglos called it the "running form".

In fact, I feel that with the passing years, he developed an entire industry ( Pose Running, running Chi, posturologists, etc..) Surrounding this mythical perfect posture and there are two or three things that irritate me ... then go hop! a ticket to talk to you ...

Firstly, I do not deny the need for each rider to pay attention to the position of his head and shoulders, the movement of his arm, the angle of her hips, her heels and how his feet touch the ground.

In this regard, I recommend this article of Runner's World dating from 2004. Although he pompously titled "The Perfect Form ", it simply gives a few key points which attention to improve our efficiency in the race.

Where I landed, is when trying to tell us we can not run, it must review all our technology and there is ONE right way to run and ... we will never hurt. I detest dogma in general, then not have to come get me in introducing dogma in this sport that I love just for the freedom it gives me.

It's been over 40 years that I walk and run like that ... I'm not going to reinvent complete! Also, I am sure I will cut more minutes to my "space" with weight training and intervals as the work by the complete change in my technique ... and as I'm not a pro athlete who can s' train full time I choose my battles.

Personally, I work to lower your eyes a little, relax my shoulders, swinging my arms over the back to the trunk as the trunk forward and put my feet to the center of the foot instead of the heel and finally not to bounce (bounce) so much! Pips I noticed in photos or videos of my races or who have been identified by my coach during testing of VAM.

I work occasionally during long runs slower. For cons, I do not pay attention every day because it takes away the fun of my race ... I focus on each ... not for two hours ... I think it's long ... but I stand quietly getting better place ...

Furthermore, attempting to drastically change my technique, I am afraid to hurt me. I know this is contradictory because it industry feeds our fear of being hurt and she gleefully exploits this angle. I also know personally that when I was hurt, I was much more sensitive to these messages because I was looking for " THE "solution. I'm not a scientist but I'm pretty sure there are many more runners who are injured because they have too quickly increased their load or speed, because they have shunned their stretching. I also do research and there are still many conflicting studies on " optimal running technique "and that does not confirm that there are fewer injuries among the followers of these solutions.

The training for the endurance race is difficult and even the best get injured then it is not sinful to do so ... it does not mean you can not run.

This particular video tickles me ... First, because it is chauvinistic ... as if only the American athletes could expect a marathon under two hours and then because, scientifically, it is still unclear whether Man with a capital H can do it (see this article ). Finally, because in listening, bibi here, originally it was willing to believe ... with all these figures to support, there is stuff ... really obvious marketing gimmick Says marketer to post ... but then she had the impression not know how to run and it has not rained!

Question bring a little water mill ... Two very large distance runners ... recognized for their bad "running form!

Emil Zatopek - locomotive (1922-2000)

Czech distance runner and holder of four Olympic titles and 18 world records who once said: " I Was not Enough to talented run and smile at the Same Time "

Paula Radcliffe (b. 1973) - current record holder World Marathon among women with a time of 2: 15: 25 at the London Marathon in 2003. His head balance, his arms windmilling ... but it's the best!

And you, what do you think of this?

Swelling Between Thumb And Finger

Share the life of a runner ... the pre-requisite!

On the eve of Valentine's Day, a note from my lover! It acts as a guest blogger and gives you his perspective on life together when the two trains for a marathon I might have made one or two things differently but that's the ticket!

Yves Boisvert spoke in the press of "matrimonial perils of training . William offers a different perspective. What is needed is that the cons love note, although not run a marathon and that it pretends to be his ticket just a fan of ping pong, s' leads regularly, skateboarding, surfing, diving, etc., etc. ...

Ticket lover

This is not a secret training for a marathon requires a commitment to all Tests and sometimes, I think, a touch of madness. Obviously I do not think I need to convince readers of this blog daily sacrifices and efforts required for this type of training (to each his own pleasure! ;) by cons I offer you, on this day of Valentine's Day, my vision pre-requisite to life with a "small stroke model" which is summarized by the acronym DESS

Nothing to do with the degree of High schools offered in universities, my acronym refers rather to the Master D E isciplina mpathique to S upport S portif spouse.

Discipline? Why? You, the riders will say: " it's not you who runs the morning at 4:45 am before going to work 3 times a week + weekends ..." But when even I who must leave the athlete to sleep early the night before (which involves many sacrifices for me ... if you have no idea what I am talking about ... because you never Having my girlfriend) so that it is at its best during training.

Jokes besides, when I talk about our lifestyle, people often pass comments like: " I do not know how you do to get up early and sleep early like this all the time ..." or " it must be difficult to forego certain pleasures of the table on a regular basis" . My answer: not really! It is rather a part of the benefits of being in a relationship with someone who trains seriously. For example, the morning I arrived at the office before everyone else, I'm super fit and I do not care colleagues who still have their eyes glued to 9am.

short, the discipline is part of the lives of two when all the slots of the week are paid at the rate of drives and therefore you will need empathy to understand the many demands of the discipline. What kind of empathy I'm referring to? Definitely not the one coming from someone who has never really done any sport or has always been immersed in instant gratification (And yes, good things come with effort!) otherwise you'll never understand the commitment essential to a successful marathon.

Well, parenthesis ... I needed the spouse that is what I do as a sport? Follower of tennis, I'm used to give my best effort and I know persevere when tight game ... Not too serious you think? Indeed! But it illustrates my previous point, it will be difficult to have real empathy necessary to support your spouse in the constants that decisions or she must take daily to perform if you have never yourself a sport that requires you to constant efforts and sacrifices.

Finally what is the support sports? That translates into many things like encouragement, massage (just a massage!) Promoting recovery, adopt better eating habits, do not expose the other temptations that sometimes lead to frustration, etc ...

Are there any advantages for the spouse to DESS? They are many! But mostly healthy living and the opportunity to see our love (will) surpass and exceed their personal goals. When Patricia crosses the finish line at 3:43 in Toronto ... I had an incredible sense of pride and above all I felt to have had this success with it so I will not go back with nothing to support it in its drive to his next marathon.

Honey, it's Valentine's Day, nine weeks before Boston ... No chocolate as you asked me .... I love you and I'm proud of you!

Best Mediafire Movies

On the road to Boston ... and how is the training?

On 14 December, eight weeks ago, I started my training for the Boston Marathon, I in talking in one of my first posts.

And there ... is in 71 days! ... 10 weeks! It's like 10 weeks tomorrow!

The training is going well, long stretch Sunday outings (2h20 scheduled program tomorrow February 6) and the miles accumulate ...

Daily Mile said that since Dec. 24 I have accumulated 373 km, 287 since the beginning of 2011 and 241 in January ... 39 hours of racing since December 24 and 23 in January ... I do not know what to think ... one thing is certain is that I skipped a few kilometers here and there ... for good and bad reasons ... not much cons so I'm pretty proud of my discipline ... but not at all sure what it will on April 17 ...

train I must say that the winter in Quebec is not jojo every day. Between the cold, wind, snow, ice, sleet, slush and the sun not too far I do not feel that I optimize my bottom out but whether it's part of the game ...

This is not the first winter that I run. Except that with a marathon planned for mid-April is the first time I try to do development (versus maintaining my base) during this season. I go out running 5 days a week ... and with the conditions ... inevitably, sometimes equivalent to go out on the floor of the gym ... which, admittedly, is much less motivating for someone like ... I who uses race as a little meditation on the other ... well, the gym is frankly less Zen!

So ... 10 weeks ... I look forward ... but it is still too far away to have complete confidence in my ability to do well ... To be continued ...

So here I am ... It's almost 17h Saturday ... and it's time to take a glass of red!

Note: The photo at the top of the ticket from the website of the Boston Marathon, this is the start 2010 - 23,126 runners!
