Passion, determination and patience - History Mijo

Today I share with you the story of Mijo ... I got to know through the comments of this blog and some emails exchanges in parallel. A story of passion for running, a story of patience and determination in the face of adversity, a story where the strength of character is revealed through the Word! That she writes well Mijo! Mijo said in April ... you come back tell us how was your race?

Mijo - Runner and Blogger invited
Passion, determination and patience!

August 1983, the 1st World Championships in Athletics in Helsinki. I just 16 years. I do not know why but I have the right to spend hours watching television. It is a revelation. I stay glued to the screen, I'm completely under the spell of athletes including runners and middle distance.

Since then I've followed athletics. I cheered the runners. I was in the stadium for track athletics championships in France taking place in my city in 1999 and 2007. I was in the stadium in Paris in 2003 to follow the World Championships in Athletics. I volunteered to supply several bullfights trails in my area.

Chausser my turn sneakers ... We had to wait year my 40 years to do!

I have not been idle either. I did other sports but not run. An apology more or less cans, work, kids, no time ... and also a good thing down in a corner of my brain all these people are gods who are untouchables Haile Gebrselassie to my neighbor through all those who are anonymous on Sunday morning or evening after work and I crossed the strides driving my car.

But on a Sunday morning in late September 2007, I go see my window five young women who run. I meet from time to time out of school. I quote them applauding. They are at the end of their journey and stop. I offer each a glass of water. They stretch, I asked. It's been over a year they meet up every Sunday morning, I can integrate the band on the next Sunday if I want. I hear myself say yes!

And I ran ... Every Sunday morning, I was present.

I loved it. Really cool chicks that have reached my level, over the miles, I raise above. The group disbanded, I continued to run alone. So proud of me.

I found a running partner. But really really strong. A former 200 meter runner which still needs to unwind by going to run. She did not run early in the morning. I adapted to run with her in late morning on weekends and late afternoons on weekdays. I have often drooled to follow his rhythm. But we have reconciled these outputs, we 've become very good friends.

In late September 2007 through August 2009, I think I ran almost every week. Running had become very necessary: to do good in letting off steam.

Meanwhile, at work, spring and summer 2009 were not great. With my husband, we've created a small business in 1996. Years ago when everything is rolling and others where we must constantly roll up their sleeves to rotate box. when it does not work hard, almost daily stress is combined with anxiety, very tired, countless hours of work, no rest and no holidays. In addition, I changed my working tool and for two months I have taken a very bad position.

August 21, 2009, children are on vacation and must return at night. We worked like crazy for a week to improve the numbers before the annual closure of accounts a month later. Before going to work, I decided to do some cleaning in every room of children. On the radio goes a song by Bernard Lavilliers. Melody Tempo Harmony. I love and I'm going on my waddling the duster in hand. I always dance when I'm over the bedside table of my youngest son. Suddenly a huge bang was heard in the lower back. I fall into two folded on the bed of my son, the skirt corkscrew on the thighs, a small car towed there stuck in the cheek. As soon as I try to move, the pain makes me turn to the eye. I call my husband for help, he drags to come, he does not believe me having seen me from making wild ...

We have more than one hour trying to get up. It took me three weeks to fully extend myself.

I waited four months before being allowed to resume physical activity (outside of Pilates classes). It was my first bone with golden fingers to succeed me rebuild the pool. He had first between each session I do 20 minutes of daily exercises to learn to fix my pond and maintain it in a good position. I also reorganized my workstation at the office to work again in a correct position.

bright spark in the eyes when the authorization fell. But beware, most races ... at least not right away. In six months in a year or even later and especially keep doing your exercises. While running, each impact with the ground is too violent for your pelvis and lower back. Each hit sends waves that could shake what we have to rebuild and is still fragile.

Spark has lost its intensity. I was entitled to cycling, swimming or brisk walking to. Okay ... I opted for a brisk walk. I hated it.

I no longer find the same feeling as when running. But I persevered. And very quickly, as for the race, I started to look forward to every ride. I have often honked. It is true that when you walk faster pace is quite funny but I smiled and I continued, I was so good. I further concrete well as the belly when I do Pilates. Double effect Kiss Cool as we say!

In March 2010, a small control basin. Staggering progress. I continue to walk.

In June 2010, I bring my youngest son to the bone, which also takes the opportunity to examine me. An honest smile on his part. I can restart the race if I want. I continue to walk.

I think I'm scared. I do not want any again. At work, it is still not a great year but at least I understood the message of last year. It's fine to roll up their sleeves but the body, our beautiful machine, sends us signals that we should not overlook. It fits almost 3 consecutive weeks of vacation in Corsica. A first since July 1996. Everything is back to rest in the family, friends, swimming for hours in a sea so beautiful, beautiful hikes in the bush or mountains, deli, wine and cheeses. Upon returning from Holidays, revitalized and healthy, I still, however, to walk.

If I meet soft surfaces (small unpaved roads through fields or along rivers), but I run most of my trips are walking fast.

Finally, two months ago, last December, I came across your blog Patricia! Your post titled "Quick Guide to the motivation" and one with links to training programs were two tickets "revealing".

I noted in my first PDA in the program to be displayed regularly! I confess that now I space in the display but the first time, I thought it was good to read it regularly to motivate me and especially for me to challenge. As for the one with the various training programs ... the real shock. I realized then that my legs, my body was ready for a long time to resume the race and finally my head decided to do it.

I selected one of the training programs. It's like a coach. I listen to it gradually up! I run, I note the distance, time on a notebook. I prancing between. If I fidgets too much, I'll walk ... I do not want to overdo it. But I can say I'm really really happy. In April, there is a small bull walking near my home: 5-7 and 10 km . I'll sign up for the 5 km ...

And my back in?
It goes very well thank you!

On the road to Boston ... balance of February

The marathon is in 49 days - seven weeks!

February figures ...

- 282 km in 25h42
- Pace through 5:22
- 3 days / week abs-dorsal
- 2 days / week weight training arm + leg

February in shades ...

load has increased during the month ... 41 km more than in January and speed intervals have become more demanding. This month and in the last 10 days more specifically, I really pushed the machine in contravention not the speeds recommended by my coach for the "light jogs" with the result ... my legs a bit tired but the morale high ... I feel strong! By cons I'll try to be wiser in the weeks to come ... an injury at this stage would be too ridiculous.

It was cold in February (No surprise, I know!). I have a mini fed up with long runs at -20! Deeply day sweeter!

February in New ...

The " Boston Athletic Association" (BBA) announced last February 16 to change its process and its criteria for registration. The change is in response to the fact that the entries this year were filled within 24 hours.

Boston Marathon ... Book a hotel and other logistical details!

The Boston Marathon is in 53 days ... It is high time that we speak logistics!

Hotel!

few days after my registration at the Boston Marathon I went on the site of the marathon, which were associated with marathon hotels and packages.

All hotels required a minimum booking of three nights and the prices were exorbitant! I have many Aeroplan points so I did a test on that side ... no avail ... I went to the site of several independent hotels marathon ... Rebelote!

also a feature of the Boston Marathon is that the departure is in the suburbs, 42 km from downtown Boston to Hopkinton. It's a bit like the start to the marathon was Montreal Mirabel ... Usually, riders take a bus then a shuttle from downtown to Hopkinton for the start. Obviously it means a departure from the hotel very early and waiting on the start line very long ...

Between the price that I found really high and the reluctance to take more of a hotel in the middle of nowhere but near starting line ... I decided to wait until early January to make my reservations.

early January, the site of the Boston Marathon - Travel and Accommodation - Qualified Runner ... hourglass ... there is no more room ... no ... ... ziltch niet ... nada ... zero ... Better luck next time!

Whereas some twenty miles up the marathon were "sold out" within 24 hours I might have had a doubt or two but finally ...

So I pulled over my second idea but the few hotels near Hopkinton were complete! I'm in a town 9 miles from the start, Westborough. As my love with me and we go by car, we will identify in advance how he will come take me back to the starting line ... On the map of the route , there seems to be a car park nearby with a Shuttle ... Stay tuned!

And the pasta dinner?

In September, in Toronto I said to the lover ... worry, there is an Italian restaurant next to the hotel and there is never anyone in downtown Toronto on Saturday night in this neighborhood at least ... worry ... I've worked 6 month staying at this hotel ... I know the area ... well the restaurant was fully booked! Luckily, the Mediterranean restaurant, in front were two places ...

Question not too try my luck and find myself in a fast food whatsoever ... I made my reservations for restaurant week Westborough last ... around the hotel and critics on the internet seem very good ... I even already consulted the menu and made my choice!

Breakfast him?

I think a lot of riders forget to plan the breakfast before the marathon. In hotels it is not always top the restaurant and in fact are often closed at the time we must take the small-bf ... To me, a good breakfast before the race is critical. Mostly I bring my oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, and I prepare myself. That's what I plan to do this time too.

Other preparations

Daniel sent me this email that I thought fit to pass on to all:

I found your blog looking for info for Boston. As someone trained in the 40-44 category for the 2011 marathon, I found your blog very interesting and motivating. I wanted you also provide pre-race advice of friends who ran the marathon in the past. Since the early departure of the buses that bring us to the start in Hopkinton, we will be about 3 hours to wait there before departure. So it is suggested to have old clothes you left in place for any kind of weather that day.

My friend last year has brought with him an old tent with a floor mat purchased at "Dollarama" and an old sleeping bag that he left behind and did not regret his idea to keep warm before the start.

Successful completion of training and good luck in Boston!

A big thank you to Daniel for the note. The marathon is in April, he will actually be essential to keep warm before the start. I have to find stuff not hot dear ...

... So here you think I forget stuff?

I return to my post marathon evaluating my alternatives for The hotel ... and everything else ... of course!

Me, my shoes ...

I have no idea how many pairs of shoes I have been since I started racing on foot ... 3-4 pairs a year ... it certainly is recommended to change its running shoes every 600 to 900km ... depending on your style of running and racing

I started with Mizuno and then switch to the Asics. The marketer in me would say that pubs Asics captive, eliminating the less sexy than Nike Asics but continues to be a favorite brands among distance runners ... like what!

Currently I have Asics GT2160 starting to have a lot of mileage ...

And this week ... I bought the very flamboyant " Racers' GEL - Noosa Tri 6 Asics

This is my first pair of "racers" to life! And it is also the first time I have found that my running shoes out of the mouth ... it will not make me run faster but is beautiful 'em good! I gradually begin to use them ... especially for speed sessions ... and footwear for the Boston Marathon (that's in 56 days !)... I've used it Saturday to test the issue at all ... I loved it!

I wear the same shoes in winter and summer. Occasionally, when conditions are really difficult, I put on crampons.

To run in the mountains I use Salomon XT Wings 2 GTX .

Otherwise ... I wear heels ... dizzyingly high

I never chose my running alone. I have always followed the recommendations of sellers in specialty stores and more recently my coach. After all, he knows my style of racing, my weaknesses and my training load. Between advice and jog in a small shop, the choice becomes easier ... This time, for example, I also tested a pair of Zoot but my arch felt stuck ...

Why leave this critical choice in the hands of others ... because it must be admitted, the choice is absolutely astounding! Also, read the descriptions and tests in magazines, there is an array of options all as good as each other with only a small difference here and there ... then here ... I try to trust those who have more information than me.

By cons, which I know is that the first few running I wore were too small ... although not recommended "pros" in stores ... so a good idea may choose the pro ... ask the right questions and feel free to question his experience ... and shop ... you train for a marathon but the majority of their customers are short-distance walkers or hikers ... change store! ... as they can not keep an inventory limit they will focus on models best suited to their customers. Previously, with these shoes too small when I started increasing my mileage accumulated bulbs my feet ... I lost a fingernail ... twice ... I will not say who had recommended them but it is a seller of the store who recommended me Run to add half a point higher. My running are now a point higher than my shoes "normal" Banal ... but my feet are eternally grateful!

You want to ask the right questions your "pro" ... This article "Running Shoe FAQ» give you an excellent base.

Antique Silver Hair Brushes How To Clean Bristles

Do you have good posture race?

All riders have already heard about the optimal position for the race. As for our friends Anglos called it the "running form".

In fact, I feel that with the passing years, he developed an entire industry ( Pose Running, running Chi, posturologists, etc..) Surrounding this mythical perfect posture and there are two or three things that irritate me ... then go hop! a ticket to talk to you ...

Firstly, I do not deny the need for each rider to pay attention to the position of his head and shoulders, the movement of his arm, the angle of her hips, her heels and how his feet touch the ground.

In this regard, I recommend this article of Runner's World dating from 2004. Although he pompously titled "The Perfect Form ", it simply gives a few key points which attention to improve our efficiency in the race.

Where I landed, is when trying to tell us we can not run, it must review all our technology and there is ONE right way to run and ... we will never hurt. I detest dogma in general, then not have to come get me in introducing dogma in this sport that I love just for the freedom it gives me.

It's been over 40 years that I walk and run like that ... I'm not going to reinvent complete! Also, I am sure I will cut more minutes to my "space" with weight training and intervals as the work by the complete change in my technique ... and as I'm not a pro athlete who can s' train full time I choose my battles.

Personally, I work to lower your eyes a little, relax my shoulders, swinging my arms over the back to the trunk as the trunk forward and put my feet to the center of the foot instead of the heel and finally not to bounce (bounce) so much! Pips I noticed in photos or videos of my races or who have been identified by my coach during testing of VAM.

I work occasionally during long runs slower. For cons, I do not pay attention every day because it takes away the fun of my race ... I focus on each ... not for two hours ... I think it's long ... but I stand quietly getting better place ...

Furthermore, attempting to drastically change my technique, I am afraid to hurt me. I know this is contradictory because it industry feeds our fear of being hurt and she gleefully exploits this angle. I also know personally that when I was hurt, I was much more sensitive to these messages because I was looking for " THE "solution. I'm not a scientist but I'm pretty sure there are many more runners who are injured because they have too quickly increased their load or speed, because they have shunned their stretching. I also do research and there are still many conflicting studies on " optimal running technique "and that does not confirm that there are fewer injuries among the followers of these solutions.

The training for the endurance race is difficult and even the best get injured then it is not sinful to do so ... it does not mean you can not run.

This particular video tickles me ... First, because it is chauvinistic ... as if only the American athletes could expect a marathon under two hours and then because, scientifically, it is still unclear whether Man with a capital H can do it (see this article ). Finally, because in listening, bibi here, originally it was willing to believe ... with all these figures to support, there is stuff ... really obvious marketing gimmick Says marketer to post ... but then she had the impression not know how to run and it has not rained!

Question bring a little water mill ... Two very large distance runners ... recognized for their bad "running form!

Emil Zatopek - locomotive (1922-2000)

Czech distance runner and holder of four Olympic titles and 18 world records who once said: " I Was not Enough to talented run and smile at the Same Time "

Paula Radcliffe (b. 1973) - current record holder World Marathon among women with a time of 2: 15: 25 at the London Marathon in 2003. His head balance, his arms windmilling ... but it's the best!

And you, what do you think of this?

Swelling Between Thumb And Finger

Share the life of a runner ... the pre-requisite!

On the eve of Valentine's Day, a note from my lover! It acts as a guest blogger and gives you his perspective on life together when the two trains for a marathon I might have made one or two things differently but that's the ticket!

Yves Boisvert spoke in the press of "matrimonial perils of training . William offers a different perspective. What is needed is that the cons love note, although not run a marathon and that it pretends to be his ticket just a fan of ping pong, s' leads regularly, skateboarding, surfing, diving, etc., etc. ...

Ticket lover

This is not a secret training for a marathon requires a commitment to all Tests and sometimes, I think, a touch of madness. Obviously I do not think I need to convince readers of this blog daily sacrifices and efforts required for this type of training (to each his own pleasure! ;) by cons I offer you, on this day of Valentine's Day, my vision pre-requisite to life with a "small stroke model" which is summarized by the acronym DESS

Nothing to do with the degree of High schools offered in universities, my acronym refers rather to the Master D E isciplina mpathique to S upport S portif spouse.

Discipline? Why? You, the riders will say: " it's not you who runs the morning at 4:45 am before going to work 3 times a week + weekends ..." But when even I who must leave the athlete to sleep early the night before (which involves many sacrifices for me ... if you have no idea what I am talking about ... because you never Having my girlfriend) so that it is at its best during training.

Jokes besides, when I talk about our lifestyle, people often pass comments like: " I do not know how you do to get up early and sleep early like this all the time ..." or " it must be difficult to forego certain pleasures of the table on a regular basis" . My answer: not really! It is rather a part of the benefits of being in a relationship with someone who trains seriously. For example, the morning I arrived at the office before everyone else, I'm super fit and I do not care colleagues who still have their eyes glued to 9am.

short, the discipline is part of the lives of two when all the slots of the week are paid at the rate of drives and therefore you will need empathy to understand the many demands of the discipline. What kind of empathy I'm referring to? Definitely not the one coming from someone who has never really done any sport or has always been immersed in instant gratification (And yes, good things come with effort!) otherwise you'll never understand the commitment essential to a successful marathon.

Well, parenthesis ... I needed the spouse that is what I do as a sport? Follower of tennis, I'm used to give my best effort and I know persevere when tight game ... Not too serious you think? Indeed! But it illustrates my previous point, it will be difficult to have real empathy necessary to support your spouse in the constants that decisions or she must take daily to perform if you have never yourself a sport that requires you to constant efforts and sacrifices.

Finally what is the support sports? That translates into many things like encouragement, massage (just a massage!) Promoting recovery, adopt better eating habits, do not expose the other temptations that sometimes lead to frustration, etc ...

Are there any advantages for the spouse to DESS? They are many! But mostly healthy living and the opportunity to see our love (will) surpass and exceed their personal goals. When Patricia crosses the finish line at 3:43 in Toronto ... I had an incredible sense of pride and above all I felt to have had this success with it so I will not go back with nothing to support it in its drive to his next marathon.

Honey, it's Valentine's Day, nine weeks before Boston ... No chocolate as you asked me .... I love you and I'm proud of you!

On the road to Boston ... and how is the training?

On 14 December, eight weeks ago, I started my training for the Boston Marathon, I in talking in one of my first posts.

And there ... is in 71 days! ... 10 weeks! It's like 10 weeks tomorrow!

The training is going well, long stretch Sunday outings (2h20 scheduled program tomorrow February 6) and the miles accumulate ...

Daily Mile said that since Dec. 24 I have accumulated 373 km, 287 since the beginning of 2011 and 241 in January ... 39 hours of racing since December 24 and 23 in January ... I do not know what to think ... one thing is certain is that I skipped a few kilometers here and there ... for good and bad reasons ... not much cons so I'm pretty proud of my discipline ... but not at all sure what it will on April 17 ...

train I must say that the winter in Quebec is not jojo every day. Between the cold, wind, snow, ice, sleet, slush and the sun not too far I do not feel that I optimize my bottom out but whether it's part of the game ...

This is not the first winter that I run. Except that with a marathon planned for mid-April is the first time I try to do development (versus maintaining my base) during this season. I go out running 5 days a week ... and with the conditions ... inevitably, sometimes equivalent to go out on the floor of the gym ... which, admittedly, is much less motivating for someone like ... I who uses race as a little meditation on the other ... well, the gym is frankly less Zen!

So ... 10 weeks ... I look forward ... but it is still too far away to have complete confidence in my ability to do well ... To be continued ...

So here I am ... It's almost 17h Saturday ... and it's time to take a glass of red!

Note: The photo at the top of the ticket from the website of the Boston Marathon, this is the start 2010 - 23,126 runners!

Cheer Leeder Wedgeetes

Five reasons to hire a coach

I I spoke earlier , I work with a coach for about a year. The reason I decided to have a coach specializing in endurance racing is that I was wounded two years of result - fractured tibia and shin - and so I had to cancel two marathons ... with much regret, anger, sadness ...

I hesitated long before taking the steps ... I thought ... I'm just an amateur rider ... Sunday ... I do not have the level for Except that a coach ... ... it anything!

So I asked some friends and sporting the name of Christian returned twice. His expertise, personality ( it grows but includes the necessary balance between sport, work and personal life - some coaches are a little more "military") and the fact that he is even an endurance athlete suited me.

Since the beginning, not so long ago, this blog, I tell myself that I will address the topic of training with a coach and exchanges after the ticket Claire last week, convinced me to tackle it ...

So here, in my opinion, the five reasons to work with a coach as part of a marathon training.

1) Maximize your workout

Before working with Christian I used training plans that I found in Runner's World in a book Running Room and in another book less Run, Run Faster .

It served me very well for several years but that now that I see the benefits of a personalized plan, I wonder if I would not be a better runner if I had started to In this way earlier.

First, I stopped working with academic areas. In non-customized plans either 1) there is an arbitrary time without knowing if it's too fast or too slow or 2) attempting to train in areas experiencing 65% to 95% of our maximum target heart rate based on averages. In both cases, it may not grow enough to injure themselves or because they grow too.

With Christian, before developing a training plan, I'm doing a VO2max test. My training plan says specifically what "pace" run for each of my races and for how long. My plan gives me all the details whether to release tempo, intervals or long runs.

Moreover, Christian fits my plan as my life. Professional obligations, vacation, a big flu or a hangover which prevents us ... cause we should not necessarily continue as if we have missed any day ... On the contrary ... if the heart rate always seems to indicate we do not grow quite the machine, the plan is adjusted slightly upward.

2) To achieve a specific objective

My goal when I started with Christian, 9 minutes was cut off my previous best marathon time and qualify well for the Boston Marathon. Christian initially unable to determine whether it was an achievable goal considering 1) I first had to restore my database due to my injury 2) my current form and 3) the number of weeks before the marathon targeted.

The goal was achievable, but not "guarantee". To I think the result was that I not only cut 9 minutes but 16 minutes and I reached my goal to qualify for the Boston Marathon. My current goal is still to improve my time ... I ' much like to remove a few more minutes ... probably not for Boston for a ton of reasons I have outlined above, but for a marathon in the fall - not determined yet.

3) Minimize the risk of injury

As I mentioned at the first point, the drive is optimized so there's less risk of injury. In addition, completing a book drive that communicates with our coach's hours of sleep, fatigue levels, stress levels, heart rate upon awakening, weight, details of each training day (the statistics but also how we feel) our coach makes sure to shape the program Driving gradually and the risk of injury are thereby reduced frankly. That said, the coach can not force us to stretch our (small point where I'm still a little rebel!), then obviously it does not depend only him but us too.

4) Have an expert contact

Your personal trainer is not omniscient but he is a professional formed, which works with several riders of all levels. When you inquire about a blog, a magazine, in discussions with other runners, the coach is an excellent source to put this information into context, to know the opinions and form your own opinion ...

5) Maintain motivation

We are curious little creatures humans ... well ... I speak for myself ... but having taken the step to find someone you trust that invests in my performance, having to fill a notebook drive, having to "make accounts "and it's a good reason to be kicking butt and go out for his race.

How does it work?

There are several ways to work with a coach ... all depends on your needs, your personality, your means. So that's how it works for me ...

Following the testing and setting my goal (the date of the marathon and pacing) my coach sent me via my personal plan e-mail every four weeks, I return my book completed training in return. Of course, if necessary, if I have questions (on a new exercise for example) or if I have to important events to schedule (vacation, business trip, etc.). we trade via telephone or email. The plan will continue until the marathon and then gradually for a few weeks, we will work recovery. Thereafter, it depends on what I decide to do ...

It is also possible to take only a few consultations, or even to train even more directly with the coach. For example, Christian made group training in swimming, spinning and running. Up to you to see what suits you ...

No need to be a professional athlete or elite training with a coach ... Enough to want to have fun ... Think about it!

That said ... a quote on the coaches of the current world record holder in the marathon ( 2 :03 : 59) - Haile Gebreselassie

“I will always listen to my coaches. But first I listen to my body. If what they tell me suits my body, great. If my body doesn't feel good with what they say, then always my body comes first.”

A book to find out! - Run Like a Girl

In that blogs I read this blog regularly there Run Like a Girl .

A blog that describes itself this way as:

"A blog about How the challenges faced by Women Participating in a sport, and the Way We Meet Those challenges, translate Into Great Strength And The Ability to Overcome The Barriers in Our Lives Outside of sports, and how o Achievement in Sports Translations into happy lives "

A series of topics that affect me special!

Mina Samuels is its author. Mina is a writer, editor, Canadian and great sport ... and more!

Mina publish his book, Run Like a Girl a few weeks. After two or three exchanges, just to get to know (the beauty of the blogosphere!), She allowed to cast a glance at a prepublication copy. When I received it I told myself that I read the intro, conclusion and look at the structure and that I would go back later error ... ... ... I devoured diagonal it is true ... but from one end to another with the promise to myself to take the time to read it slowly, when I have a hard copy ... yes ... it's the type of book where you want corner of the pages, highlight passages, think ...

To whet your appetite Mina has agreed to answer some questions (in French!). Here is our exchange:

- Mina Samuels you're an author and publisher but in a previous life you were a lawyer. What was the trigger of your career change?

I moved to New York to pursue my Masters of Law "at Columbia University. I studied human rights in an international context. In New York during my studies, I fell in love with a New Yorker. We met at a "speed workout" in Central Park, the first time I made a real 'speed workout '!. Once I graduate, I wanted to stay in New York with him.

During my preparation for the bar exam in New York, I also took a course in creative writing. I liked it a lot! I knew I loved that so right, I loved writing, creativity, access to the subconscious. I could not imagine being more lawyer. Both writing and running, gave me much joy and then there New York, a city that seems to give us a license to lie again, has to reinvented. Change direction was like opening a door and feel a great wind of March - fierce, with some warmth of spring, but even the coldness of winter - in English I would say the wind " bracing. "

- Is this your first book?

As my job is to be "negro literary " , I wrote a dozen books for other authors. Under my own name, I published a historical novel in 2007, The Queen of Cups , and then, with a client, I write (really for him!) The Think Big Manifesto in 2009.

- The title is "Run Like a Girl" but, like your blog, it's not just the race, in fact it This is a book on how sport, physical activity allows us to be stronger for women no longer happy, is not it?

Definitely!

- Who should read it, who do you turn?

I speak for all women who participate in sports, of course, but more than that, I hope to inspire women who are currently no sport or less they would like.

What do you say to skeptics, women who say, nahhhh .... I do not like physical activity, I do not sweat?

Sweat is one of the greatest pleasure in the world - it gives us a feeling of complete happiness (thank you endorphins!). More than that, sweat (and I mean really push themselves to do something difficult or new) shows us that we are capable of much more than we imagine. And when you develop that kind of confidence ... then ... things qu’on peut accomplir!

- Vous parlez de la discipline nécessaire et de la gestion du temps…et entre autre vous dites ceci : « Staying in shape, rejuvenating ourselves through playing sports, is good for us, and when it’s not shortchanging the people in our lives, from family and friends, to our employers—it’s more than likely good for them, too.”   Vous la définissez comment la ligne “shortchanging”?

The line is personal to each woman. It recognizes it when you become depressed when we lose our joy when we have not seen our friends, our family, our love for too long. When we are halfway to our present life.

- About self-image, you say: "... Being obsession with thin Cdn Become so all-consuming for Some Women That Their sports Become more of a weapon wield Against Themselves THEY Rather Than Finding a road to inner peace, With body image and So Much Else. "

Yet sites and publications devoted to sports often deal in their section" for women " tips to lose weight, lose weight ... Why are we not talking about simply eating to perform in sport and in life do you think? It does not seem to have the same approach the men's side either?

Not as much as women, but I think that publications for men (Men's Health, etc..) have a lot of articles about "having a six-pack. But yes, there are a lot more pressure on women to lose weight and lose weight too often, let alone be strong and healthy. I hope that when you do sports, we see that being strong is being pretty thin. Actually, what we think of ourselves is in our brains, not in the mirror. And sport, we hope, gives us the confidence to see the body at its best, whatever it is, when you look in the mirror.

- In the chapter entitled "Chicking the Boys' tell you how you stop your climb of Kilimanjaro, while you were so close to your goal, to accompany the descent, your spouse who had discomfort . Do you believe that your decision would be different today?

Yes! The summit is for me! And then - Patricia - you have the answer (I've since learned that Mina returned to Africa in 2010 and, this time, completed His ascension!). I cried at the top, I was so happy to be there. And then a great sigh of relief! The chapter is closed, at last!

- You make several links between sport and the psychological balance, the ability to live in the moment. You think there cause and effect or that it is simply the same type of person who seeks both?

I dare not decide as if I were a shrink. I can only speak from my personal experiences and those of women with whom I spoke to my book. It is my observation that there are many people who find that living the present moment is really difficult to participate in a sport or not. There are even people who participate in sports just because they are so stressed all the time.

That said, those who make a sport is the opportunity to practice being in the moment - I mean, is that sport, if you take it seriously, requires a certain focus, and in sport there are times when you can not concentrate on anything else. Although this is not the intention, you learn how to let go of all other thoughts, that embarrass our minds. This experience - to live in the present - shows us the peace and joy as possible - then we want to replicate.

Any a long answer to your question - the short is, yes, I think there is some cause and effect, and no, I do not think people who play sports live the present moment more naturally than others.

- Can I get your book online and if so where and from what date?

Absolutely! The book can be preordered on Amazon now. You will receive two or three weeks.

I really want to thank Mina has agreed to play the game of Q & A this blog who still did not have the readership of Runner's World and who has so generously agreed to let me see her book prior to publication. I hope you enjoy it!
